Items on this website are purchased on a custom pre-order basis. This means that I only start making your items once you have made your purchase. The lead time for this is usually 3-4 weeks, though it can be shorter or longer depending on the volume of orders I receive. I post regular updates on shop openings and lead times on my instagram and in my newsletter. If you need something sooner, e.g. for a special occasion, get in touch and I’ll see what I can do to fit you in.

To add an item to your basket, you need to select from a range of specific features. Some of these (such as fabric pattern type) are included in the base price, and some cost extra due to the extra labour and materials involved (e.g. larger sizes, crotch snaps, custom consultations/specific fabric requests). All additional charges are clearly signposted at the point of purchase.

There are two main categories of Bab items, and slightly different rules apply to each.

  1. The puffball rompers, panel dress, shorts, coats, bibs, baby shoes, and all hats: When you preorder any of these, you will be asked to choose between a Bab special and a custom item. With the Bab special, you select a general fabric theme and let me know the colours/shades you prefer, and I do the rest. This is a great option if you get overwhelmed by choice and like a bit of a surprise. Unless specifically requested, I rarely make the same item twice, so you can rest assured that your child won’t be bumping into anyone in the same outfit at the playground. If you’re ordering more than one item and want them to match (i.e. same fabrics) or coordinate (i.e. different fabrics but similar tones/themes), just add a note to your order or get in touch with me immediately after purchase, and I’ll be happy to oblige if available fabrics allow.

    The custom option is perfect for when you have a more specific vision for a garment, and want to discuss this and vet fabrics before production. You might have a three year old who refuses to wear anything that isn’t turquoise and chicken-themed, or want a romper with embroidered snowdrops to mark a January birthday: I’m up for pretty much anything, from the ridiculous to the sublime. Once you’ve selected and paid for this option, we have a brief consultation (by email, phone, or video call) where I show you what fabrics I have available/can source. If necessary, we then have one further consultation to finalise the design before I make it up. The extra charge for this service covers my additional time and labour, as well as my knowledge and expertise in sourcing all kinds of fabrics. If a custom item is for a special occasion, I recommend ordering as far in advance as possible to guarantee that we can make it work in time.

  2. The DIY trousers, shacket, and pinafore dress: When you preorder any of these, you will be asked to choose between a small range of suitable fabrics that I have in stock. These items can also be customised. With the shacket, you have the option of adding details, such as an embroidered name, message, or a patch from a small UK business like Petra Boase or James Barker. The extra charge for these options covers my labour and materials, either in embroidering the name/message or in sourcing the patch. There is also a custom fabric option, which works in the same way as for the puffball romper and other items in category 1.
