Sizing Guide and Finished Measurements

Please check the finished measurements against something that fits your child well, has a similar shape, and is made from a similar fabric (e.g. a woven). If in doubt, get in touch and we’ll figure something out!

Puffball Romper: A roomy, drop-crotch style.

The most important measurement for all Puffball Rompers is the shoulder to crotch measurement, as this tells you whether the romper will be too short for your child. To check this, measure in a diagonal from their mid-shoulder (i.e. where a dungaree strap would sit) to their crotch point - don’t forget to measure while they are wearing a nappy! This measurement needs to be a good 2.5 cm/1” or more shorter than the romper shoulder to crotch measurement. For this kind of dropped crotch style, it would be normal for the garment shoulder-crotch measurement to be about 10-15.5 cm/4-6” longer than that of the intended wearer.

For those wanting to purchase the reversible Puffball Romper, or a regular Puffball without crotch snaps, for a cloth nappy wearer it is also crucial to check that the waist circumference can fit over your child’s nappy with ease. If it can’t, you will not be able to get the romper on and off! This should only be a possible issue with very bulky cloth nappies, but it’s worth checking before purchase just in case. You can do this by sliding a measuring tape held in a circle at the right measurement up your child’s body from their feet to their armpits while they are wearing their nappy - it should be easy to get it up and down. If it isn’t, I recommend crotch snaps as you can then put the romper on over their head and avoid the issue altogether.

Panel Dress: An oversized, high-waisted style.

The Panel Dress is sized according to height, with a 10 cm margin either side - meaning that the 90 cm dress should fit most children within a height range of 85-95 cm tall. Nevertheless, it’s worth checking the waist circumference and overall length just in case, either against your child or a garment made in a similar fabric (so not stretchy/elasticated) that you know fits them well. This dress is intended to have a lot of ease in the waist (approximately 19 cm/7.5”) but can be comfortably worn with less if you prefer a slightly slimmer fit - if this is your preference, I’m happy to make the size down with added length in the bodice and/or skirt on request, no extra charge.
