A cross between an overshirt and a light jacket, the Shacket is a great outer layer for milder spring, summer, and early autumn. Like all Bab clothes, it has an oversized fit, with room in the body and sleeves for growth - it should last each child a good few seasons at least. The Shacket closes with chunky brass snaps, and has pockets generous enough to hold your child’s favourite toys/snacks/stone collection. It’s also easily customized to add a warm fleece lining, extra pockets, a special patch or three on the outside, or an embroidered name or message on the back facing. Maybe I’m biased, but I think it looks particularly good thrown over a Panel dress or paired with the DIY trousers…

The Shacket is available in three colours/fabrics: a light blue ramie (a material made from a relative of the nettle); a dark navy-and-white striped cotton-linen blend; and a super soft rust needlecord. Care - wash with nonbio detergent at 30° C or lower, on a gentle/handwash cycle if possible. Hang dry on a small clothes hanger to minimise wrinkles. Iron on medium if desired - the ramie in particular benefits from a quick iron to soften it up after washing, though it will soften with wear anyway. If you can remember, it‘s a good idea to close the snaps before washing, but this isn’t essential.

Composition:

Body - 100% ramie (the light blue); 85% cotton 15% linen (navy-and-white stripe); 100% cotton (rust corduroy).

Thread - either recycled polyester or 100% organic cotton, depending on the best colour match. The embroidered fabrics used are all second-hand, but are likely to use 100% cotton embroidery threads.
